emperor's new clothes, the |
| 释义 |
the emperor's new clothesˌemperor’s new ˈclothes, the this expression is often used to describe a situation in which people are afraid to criticize something because everyone else seems to think it is good or important. It is the title of a fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen about an emperor who pays a lot of money for some new magic clothes which can only be seen by wise people. The clothes do not really exist, but the emperor does not admit he cannot see them, because he does not want to seem stupid. 皇帝的新衣〔出自一则安徒生童话,常喻指因他人赞美或重视某事物而不敢对其提出批评〕ˌemperor’s new ˈclothes, theChineseSyllable |
